Look for a clear Korean curriculum
A beginner should know where to start, why a lesson comes next, and what ability a unit develops. A large library can feel generous while leaving the learner to design the course.
Strong apps connect Hangul, vocabulary, grammar, listening, and communication across an ordered path. They also explain what their levels mean without pretending to award official KLI or TOPIK results.
Check whether practice requires recall
Tapping a visible answer can build familiarity, but Korean production requires retrieval. Look for listening without text, typed or constructed responses, speaking prompts, and tasks that ask you to apply a pattern in a new sentence.
Feedback should identify the gap and let you retry. Entertainment is useful when it supports attention; it should not replace effort.
Ask what happens after a lesson
Completed material should return. Spaced review, mixed practice, mastery checks, and visible weak areas help prevent a course from becoming a trail of forgotten checkmarks.
A good review system adapts frequency while keeping context. It should make old Korean easier to use, not merely preserve a flashcard score.
Compare audio, speaking, and real-life usefulness
Listen for natural Korean audio and check whether lessons prepare useful functions: introductions, ordering, directions, routines, plans, requests, and opinions. Speaking should progress from imitation toward recall.
No app fully replaces spontaneous conversation and teacher correction. The honest choice may combine an app with tutoring, exchange, class, or institute study.

Vela is built for learners who want a visible, KLI-informed Korean path, short daily sessions, active practice, smart review, placement support, and offline continuity. Korean is the launch course; other languages are planned for later.
Vela may not fit someone seeking a university certificate, live daily classes, or a standalone dictionary. Choose based on the learning environment you will actually use.
