Understand the TOPIK I format

The National Institute for International Education describes TOPIK I as the beginner test. The paper-based format has listening and reading sections, 70 questions in total, 100 minutes, and a maximum score of 200. Official score bands determine Level 1 or Level 2.

Confirm the current format and schedule on the official TOPIK or NIIED site before registering, especially if you are taking the internet-based version.

Weeks 1–2: diagnose and rebuild foundations

Take a small official-style sample without timing. Sort misses into vocabulary, grammar, listening detail, reading speed, or test instructions. Review Hangul fluency, numbers, time, places, daily verbs, particles, tense, negation, and common question forms.

Your study list should come from the diagnosis. Avoid buying another resource until you know what the current one fails to solve.

Weeks 3–5: expand beginner comprehension

Study high-frequency vocabulary by theme while continuing sentence-level grammar. Complete short listening sets and reading sets several times each week. Explain why every wrong option is wrong.

Include signs, notices, schedules, short dialogues, and basic connected text. TOPIK preparation should broaden comprehension, not reduce Korean to isolated test tricks.

Weeks 6–7: add timing and question strategy

Practice larger sections under realistic limits. Mark difficult items, continue, and return if time remains. Train numbers and key details in listening, and identify the purpose and connective logic of short readings.

Review the error log by pattern. If several misses share one grammar ending or topic, repair the underlying knowledge before taking another full test.

Week 8: taper and perform

Complete one final timed practice early in the week, review it carefully, and reduce volume before test day. Prepare identification and logistics in advance. Sleep and concentration are part of the plan.

Vela can support the structured beginner vocabulary, grammar, listening, and review behind TOPIK I, but it does not issue official scores or replace official test materials.
